Lane's End announced Saint Liam's stud fee at $50,000 for 2006 according to the article released today.
Saint Liam Stands for $50,000
Lane’s End Farm has set the stud fee for Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Saint Liam (Saint Ballado--Quiet Dance, by Quiet American) at $50,000, live foal. Saint Liam, retiring for the 2006 season, joins fellow Classic winners A.P. Indy and Pleasantly Perfect at the Versailles, Kentucky, nursery. “We’re excited about him for a lot of reasons,” said Lane’s End’s Bill Farish. “First of all, because he was such a great racehorse. Also, we’re very excited to be standing a son of Saint Ballado. There has been a lot of interest in him, especially for that stud fee.” more . . .

I view him as a "show me stallion" in the breeding shed. I'm skeptical of his ability until he proves otherwise. Crazy thing is breeding has become a "speculation game" the last 25 years in regards to sires. Makes no sense to me but then I'm not spending the million$ to see if a particular horse will be a good sire. For around $50,000 I can breed to Smart Strike and I KNOW he is a good sire.
hi horsenuts
You make too much sense...shame on you
...after all this is the thoroughbred industry.
All kidding aside...are there any conditions under which you would breed a mare (of yours) to a stallion that has yet to prove that he can sire (to your satisfaction) racehorses? What you wrote "I'm skeptical of (Saint Liam's) ability until he proves otherwise" followed by "Crazy thing is breeding has become a "speculation game" seems to indicate otherwise.
