Read the Footnotes to NY

Postby parsixfarms » Thu Dec 08, 2005 3:21 pm

Lakland North has announced that Read the Footnotes will relocate from FL to NY for 2006. (Perhaps to fill a void left by Wiseman's Ferry's departure to KY??) I know he was the Timonium sales-topper as a 2YO and a real, nice racehorse. As a result, I was surprised that, as a first-crop sire with speed, he was only bred to 89 mares last year. Is there something I'm missing? Do any of our Florida members have any thoughts (pro or con) regarding his confirmation?

I havent seen him in the flesh yet but I will when we send 2 mares to Freud this season. Hes a stallion I'd consider for my Wavering Monarch mare for 2007- this yrs shes booked to Wheelaway.

I think it is pretty smart on their part. 1) First crop Florida breds seem to have an advantage in that all important first year. 2) New York is hurting for commercial stallions with Phone Trick, Wisemans Ferry gone, so they should get plenty of numbers in a more difficult selling second and third year (NY stallions must stay two years.) 3) Take advantage of big NY bred purses in those years. Seems like a smart plan from the people who really know how to make a stallion.
