I think you mentioned you used Titus Livius before what do you make of him , how are his legs ? Have you seen Medecis ? Pyrus is also standing next year but I reckon he won't suit irish conditions, any opinion on this ?

Sheikh,
I actually haven't used Titus Livius myself, but am thinking of him next year. We have a 2yo by him that won us 3 races this year and TL, had a very good year himself. He seems to be good value for the money, but you will get small foals if he is bred to a small mare. As for TL's legs, in pictures he looks a bit wonky. I would have to see him before making any decisions. I saw Medicis at the National Stud and I think he is the best breeding value in Ireland. He has a good pedigree and his foals were very well received at the sales. Again, he is a bit on the small side. Pyrus is a gorgeous animal and next year his foals will be all the rage as with Iron Mask and Captain Rio. But, But, But, I think I would only use a Ballyhane sire in the first year and that's it. I watch every year his first season sires kill them at the sales as foals and by the time their yearlings, people aren't intrested anymore. City On A Hill is an example. Had a dreadful 1st season and people won't touch him now. He throws beautiful stock too. Ballyhane has a new sire by Nureyev down there who looks very interesting and Rathbarry has a new sire by Efisio called Le Vie De Colori. He was a group winner 2, 3. 4, and 5. This appeals to me as he was very sound and kept up to his best for 4 years. He was 7furlongs to a mile as well. Haven't made any clear decisions yet on where I'm going. I only have 2 mares and you'd think I had 20 the way I carry on. Will be going to a lot of stud farms in January!

Thanks Teb, interesting comments as usual, I agree re: Medecis, haven't seen him but like him on paper and they did sell well. Also agree LVDC is a good addition, not too much Forli blood in Ireland. I wasn't casting any aspersions one way or the other on TL. The Captain Rio's looked smashing and sold accordingly, I would be interested to hear your impressions when you go stallion hunting in January. Did you see any of the other boys at the National stud ?
Sheikh,
I also looked at Celtic Swing who I adore, but don't have a mare that warrants breeding to him. I have a French Deputy mare I'd like to send to him, but her Montjeu sister needs to come out and do something before I spend more than 5,000 on her stud fee.
UK Breeder,
Jealous of you as always! You have such a future ahead of you in this game. Looking forward to see what your mares throw you this year! Take Care

got to agree with you guys medecis does appear good value, saw him earlier this year and what a super looker, maybe one leg is a bit pissed but overall very impressed, however i would worry that the first book of mares was quite weak.
if you get the chance take a look at some of the others there as well, touch of the blues, indian danehill, indian haven, given the right support all these can be commercial sucesses for the smaller breeder.

dont blame the horse . he wont know how much you paid for him.
Yes Harperstown, I think they were focussing their marketing efforts on Touch of the blues but apparently medecis mares after where much better although I haven't personally reviewed the report yet. I like Totb, 35 starts,a winner from 2-6, a real race horse, will like him even more if he gives me a colt
With all of you. I like to speak once, when I ever go to eire again.
If anyone ever meet Marc Clarke, he lives in Castletown, Athboy. Co Meath (AN MHI) I suppose his dad John Brendan Clarke passed away.
when we met him at tatts he was already in his old age.
And his memory started getting troubles (sadly)
Give please my most and warm regards
