Cherokee Run
Anyone have any thoughts on him.
hi judi
Cherokee Run always seems to have some appeal and has proven he can come up with a brilliant one every so often.
That said...when his stud fee was $20,000 he was in high demand...when it was bumped from $20,000 to $40,000 it seemed a bit optimistic (from my perspective) but he still attracted good support.
More recently his runners seem to have quieted down a bit though, and certainly he could use a front page horse...regardless...I expect that it wouldn't take much to regenerate the enthusiasm...especially if he came up with a classics contender (which arguably is not what he's best known for). The likes of the brilliantly fast speedsters Chilukki and/or Kafwain seem to be the kind that many recall when they consider Cherokee Run as a sire.
I find Cherokee Run a bit difficult to recommend at $40k right now...$25k to $30k is probably a spot where I'd feel more confident with him...
...but clearly he can sire a VERY fast racehorse.
Respectfully

He tends to sire good looking, precocious, speedy horses. And he has four sons standing at stud in Kentucky from his first four crops. As FOS said, he was way over-subscribed when his fee was 20K, hence the bump to 40K.
2005 has been a pretty quiet year for Cherokee Run. He needs another stand-out horse in order his justify his stud fee remaining at that level. Based on his past record, however, I wouldn't be surprised to see him produce one. I have a mare booked to him for 2006, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the result.

FOS and LSB,
Thanks for your replies.
As much as he has thrown some really fast horses, and that is very essential in racing in this country. He appears to also have the pedigree to produce some "classic" runners. The best of the distance runners usually need to also have some reserve of speed.
I wish the best of luck to you, LSB, with your 2007 foal.
