Pure Prize Vs. Cactus Ridge
Pure Prize and Cactus Ridge, if you were to compare the two stallions what are the strong points and the weaknesses of both? Also how did these studs hold up on the track? what are there conformation faults?
I like Pure Prize better of the two but if anyone likes Cactus Ridge for some reason they should pipe up.
Still, Pure Prize will probably need a pretty straight mare.

I saw Cactus Ridge last fall at Walmac and liked him compared to some of the others that I saw (Zavata, Minardi). As for soundness issues, he only raced four times as a 2YO, winning each start. He was injured after winning the Arlington-Washington Futurity. I seem to recall the people at Walmac saying he was somewhat fragile as a racehorse. I don't believe they even tried to get him back to the races after his 2YO season.
His first foals are yearlings now; his weanlings seemed to sell rather well given his stud fee.
As for Pure Prize, the few yearlings that I saw here in Saratoga last year did not particularly impress me. Actually, seeing how he stands at Vinery - an outfit that supports their stallions - PP's yearling average, given his pedigree and the fact he is a son of Storm Cat, was rather disappointing. He'd be a gamble with his first foals hitting the track this year.

First, you weren't comparing much to Cactus Ridge at Walmac. He never really impressed me. Walmac is a good group of guys and they shot straight with you about his rather frail nature... which would definitely be a concern.
Pure Prize has a wonderful body. However, it is obvious that he was bred to race by the Phipps. Had he ever gone through the sale ring, someone would have given him some "assistance" with those crooked legs. Fortunately, he seems only to pass on these legs about 10% of the time. Of course, one must weigh that his career was rather atypical for a Storm Cat... in that he seemed to get better (or perhaps simply healthier) as he got older.
Vinery did support Pure Prize but in a more quiet way. Word is that they bought a few privately and then only concerned themselves with a couple which went through the sales ring.
We had a nice one, however she got hurt prior to the sale, was not at her best and was a little nutty beside. She also, like many of the Pure Prize's, was from a mare whose pedigree was a little light.
Basically, I'd take Pure Prize... if your mare tends to throw correct foals. I like his body, his presence, and his female family much better. Plus, with him, you pretty much know that what you see is what he is.
Good luck!
