Stark Ridge--Florida Stallion
Does anyone have any information on Stark Ridge? As some of you know I have a privately devised system for identifying stallions which improve their mares substantially for bargain stud fees. This guy has all the look of doing this but I need to get more information on him. Can anyone help? I think this guy could be a real sleeper very much like Northern Afleet!
best regards Brendan

yukidragon---in the picture that was sent to me, his neck looks fine with his body. According to the data that came with the photo he is 16.2, so a long graceful neck looks beautiful in my opinion and balances what appears to be a long barrel. Did you see him in person? how were his legs? What faults did you think he has or more importantly do you think he throws to his offspring? It sounds like your mare had a long neck also so you were afraid to breed a stallion with a long neck, is that right? I personally like to breed "like to like" rather than breed more to the opposite with something like neck length.
As a sire, I think he is way above average in his ability to give you a very good race horse. He looks like a great bargain at 1,000.00 and for whatever it is worth, I would strongly recommend you breed to him, even if your mare has a long neck. How did you find him? I think you would be hard pressed to find a better stallion in that price range, Eltish and West Acre are the only other two stallions that come close to Stark Ridge (in my opinion) and they are slightly more expensive than he. I know nothing about the farm he stands at, do you have any information or experience with the farm? According to my private system he is an exceptional value and I wish he was physically closer to me. He may be worth the trip from NJ anyway. Just my humble thoughts but I would appreciate any other information you might be able to share with me. Thanks for the reply.

I never seen him in person.
The photo that was sent to me showed a very long neck stallion.
My mare is balanced well an to take a chance on a extra long neck foal was'nt for me I was looking to improve breeding stock, not to race.
If you where breeding to race, theres been a many a race won an lost by a neck
I picked another Florida stallion that year.
If your going-I'd go earlier, man it was hot there an the lovebugs were a nightmare.
Pedigree wise I was looking at his female- tail.
A Doctor owned him in 04.
I have some info I could dig up if you need it.
It is important to have your mares paper work up to date .
Florida is a very hard state to get in an out of.
Good luck.

Yukidragon--A retired Cardioligist still owns him and the farm where he stands (Tiffany Farm), I called the farm yesterday and spoke with Dr Jay (as he likes to be called). Dr Jay, informed me that the farm is located in Ocala and that he was offered a substantial amount of money for his 300 acres and would be moving in one year to another farm in the Ocala area. He mentioned his farm is caddy cornered from Live Oak Stud, so I know roughly where he is located. I don't think Dr Jay knows what he has in his stud and I wouldn't describe him as the most persuasive or knowledgeable person I have ever spoken to about a stallion, but he was very cordial to speak with. His accent sounded indian. I didn't even ask him about the mares Stark Ridge had covered because I could tell that question was not going to be answered the way I needed it to be addressed. I will have to find another way to get the AEI and CL for his stallion. I am still strongly considering him for two mares I own but I would feel more comfortable if I knew more about the farm and their ability to get my two mares in foal. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Cathyd- Dr Jay has already purchased another farm in the Ocala area and will be moving his horses to that farm in the December time frame. He said the new farm will be more of a training center but that he intends to keep his horses in Florida. I would love to have Stark Ridge here in NJ to complement the other two stallions I stand, Rockin on Ready and Honor Defend. If you would ever like to breed to either of these stallions I would be very happy to accomodate any mare you send. Feel free to stop by the farm if you would like to see either of these stallions in the flesh, I have some beautiful foals on the ground by Honor Defend. He has thrown some exceptional looking individuals and his first crop of two year olds will hit the racetrack this year, we are only minutes from exit 7 off the NJ turnpike. Hope all is well.

Austique, thanks. I know he is not getting a lot of mares and I can only assume they are not of the highest quality either but by my system he has done very well with what he has seen. I am pretty confident he has improved almost every mare that he has covered and that to me is the sign of a very good stallion. I would love to see what he could do if he covered some above average mares. I think this guy deserves a much better chance than he has seen to date. I hope some savy Florida breeders take advantage of this guy. He looks to be incredible value, especially for the breed to race crowd.
