Hello, all,
Has Buddha had any winners yet? I haven't seen any. How did his two year olds sell and work, does anyone have an idea?
I thought he would hit a little harder. Could his babies be late developers?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Buddha - Any Winners Yet?

Buddha appears to not have had any starters yet. Its still really early and he only started once at two. He has averaged $121,947 for 2yos with a median of $75,000 with 19 sold. He had 4 RNA's and 3 (including an RNA failed to bring back the fee). Only 1 other foal failed to at least double it. I watched several of them work via internet to keep tabs on who might be good to hit in their soft years and I just wasn't as of yet overly impressed.
Early year yearling returns have been softer with his average being down by about $20,000 but his median holding steady, but that's to be expected this early in the year. Mare in foal prices have remained fairly steady (again early in the year).

Thanks, Austique,
Very helpful. I had in my mind, I guess, that people thought he would be a sire of very early two year olds, but I am not sure why I had that impression.
He was a nice horse. I hope his babies start to hit!

Given his sire, it's not unreasonable to figure he might get things together with some 2yos. You're not crazy

What the hell do I know? His first starter was a winner

That would seem a hard rap to overcome at the sales. Maybe he will prove different at the track.
It's kind of hard to believe that, considering how well his offspring have sold. In fact, if I remember correctly, his stud fee went up based on those early sales, before anything was even old enough to race.
His yearling average for 2005 was 85K, not at all shabby for a stallion whose stud fee was, I think, 15K when those yearlings were conceived.
I know he's a bit iffy but I would concur with LSB that his yearling average was too high to just be pinhookers hoping that despite the bad legs they would work fast. I do anticipate them having trouble keeping them together once they hit the track.
I did run across his retirement announcement while looking for something on a different horse and he was reportedly retired due to chronic back issues or a hind end muscle strain (my brain's not functioning properly, Beard Papa's will do that to you).

Buddha retired due to persistent hip or back problem, unrelated to his crooked legs. I saw him twice at Hill 'n' Dale, but not lately. No doubt he and his foals look precocious and of good size, as most Unbridled Songs do. So he was likely to sell well initially, before the foals developed any issues in training. And I'm sure the early ones to sell were the best looking ones, more correct, for commercial purposes, to enhance his image.
One would be well-advised to match with him sound mares with good conformation, that are not too heavy; and wait to race the babies at three.
