Wetherbys Fall Mixed Sale.

There will be a fall mixed sale at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Dallas-Ft. Worth on October 21st. Consignor move in October 19, inspection and reception dinner for buyers and sellers October 20, and the sale will be held on October 21st. They will have concessions and a full bar.
There will be an auction or a raffle with a trip for 2 to the Kentucky Derby. Also stallion seasons, etc.
The bidders can attend the sale or bid by phone, online, or by fax.
I've been told the website for the sale will be up shortly and I'll post it as soon as it is.
I know they are offering discounts on travel, hotels, horse transport. It sounds like this will end up being a really great sale, because it's at the Will Rogers Memorial Center where everything is closer together and the weather should be a lot better than in August.
The promotions will be really good, and that makes all the difference. Also, consignment will create eligability for a handicap and the fee for consignment is only $100. Not bad. This is going to be an awesome deal. I think a lot of Texas breeders have been needing a sale like this. I'll post more about it as soon as I know.

I will look for the website. I certainly like the timing of the sale. First, by October the weather will be good. Secondly, for those of us who have to work for a living, it is on a day that we can attend. I would expect that there are a lot of good entries that might show up, especially at a mixed sale. Keep us informed.

Bedou,
I sure will. The website is currently under construction, but it will be up shortly. I am going to check out the sale for some weanlings myself. I have heard that a couple are going through that I was interested in. Not a bad deal. The timing is perfect. There's really nothing going on in racing that weekend and the weather should be great.

I understand that consignment forms should be out tomorrow. Consignment is $100 with 3% sale commission. The race will be a $40,000 purse, which should make it black type under the new catalogue rules. There will be a trophy to the winner. Also, there will be giveaways at the sale, including some tickets to the Breeders Cup with hotel and airfare. I have no idea what the conditions for the giveaway are, so don't ask me how you get them.
The web address is www.wetherbys.org
I don't think it will be up for a few days. The usual options will be available, just like any other sale as far as credit forms for phone bidding, etc.
There will be lots of people rolling out the welcome mat to any visitors to our state to show them some serious Texas sized hospitality. We intend show our guests that we have good horses, good people, and we welcome their business.

The website is up now, but still a work in progress.

More of the story is coming out about the sale, and it is all to the good. This sale has a strong backer in Brian Wallis, and he is responding to some of the problems and concerns of Texas breeders and their ability to get their horses an opportunity in a convenient, fun, and well attended venue.

If you are in the southwest, check out this opportunity for selling or buying. If you just enjoy horses and sales, come and check it out and win a prize. Whatever, your interest, this sale deserves support.

The website isn't very informative. I finally found mention of the $100 consignment fee, but couldn't find the commission fee. Where is the sale being advertised?

It is amazing how this grassroots effort is starting to take off in just about no time -- which is a good thing, since there is little time left. I got word that there were three yearlings from Key Ranch being consigned to support this sale. These are not RNAs from the August sale, but ones that had been held back. I took a little trip today to look and see for myself one of them whose pedigree I particularly like. She is quality. Now, I am frantically trying to figure out where I can get the money to do some bidding. For sure I am going to this sale. Who knows, I might even win one of those sets of tickets to the Breeder's Cup, complete with hotel and airfare? I could have fun doing that.

Angel, you might want to inform the person who is conducting the sale that the minimum purse level for black type will be increased to $45,000 in 2007, and $50,000 in 2008.

Here's the info from Thoroughbred Times:

Good luck.

Thanks for the attention to this detail. I have been in contact with Brian Willis, who is organizing the sale. He assured me that his commitment is to a stakes race, and there will be a $ 45,000 purse the first year.

Also, to update further: The catalogue will be online, and paper copies will be available at the sale. Due to the shortage of time, only a very limited number of catalogues will be mailed out before the sale.

There is a link to the sale website via the TTA website, Texasthoroughbreds.com or you can go directly to the site at Wetherbys.org. Entries are coming in and things are progressing.

It looks like they have 150 Texas breds in for this sale so far. That is very good considering the short set up time for this initial sale.

I wish Mr. Wallis all the best on this one, as he truly is trying to help out Texas breeders and the small Texas horsemen outfits with this sale.

Keep your fingers crossed and attend if you get the chance.
