yearlings whinnying

Postby Toccet02 » Mon Sep 18, 2006 10:10 am

OK, I admit I'm watching the live feed way more than I should, but it's so educational and fun...
I've noticed an awful lot of yearlings looking right out into the crowd and whinnying.
I could understand if it was at other horses....are they seeing other horses out the back of the pavillion or somnething?
Just curious.

They can't see other horses, unless through the windows on the doors where they come in and out. Probably they can hear and smell the other horses on deck (who are usually whinnying themselves). But, it's likely just that they're nervous and stressed.

It is sometimes very sad  Sometimes those yearlings and the weanlings stand up there scared out of their wits. Poor things - they also get really scared when no one is bidding on them (speaking from experience).

They are scared standing up on the stage with the noise and people gawking - and they are scared and frightened when no one bids on them (HA) - because they have no idea where they are going to go. Actually it is the owners that are selling that are more nervous.
