Fasig-Tipton February

Postby madelyn » Sun Jan 28, 2007 10:10 am

Well the catalogs are out, I'm very pleased with my five going in on Monday, later in the day.

It is certainly going to be a SMALL sale. Anyone care to comment why Keeneland has them flowing for pennies at the end of a sale that is too large while F-T seems to get such small books?

But there are some LOVELY mares and I will be there anyway  . There are shares in Not For Love and Two Punch, although those horses are in Maryland.

I've got my new halters with plates, and oiled and softened everything. Been cleaning tack and packing already. We've got jackets with the farm logo.. Got my stall cards ordered. I will print out my sign out sheets this week. I'm taking my camera.. and a page from Paramount's book. Whoever buys one of these gets that cute thank you card with a picture of the horse they bought. This should be FUN! Does anyone have any tips for a first timer?

By the way, does anyone know if the consignor typically provides the auctioneer with "extras" to announce at the time of sale and if so, when? For example, the 3 year olds I have are all broke with 90 days plus saddle time. The males are gelded, wolf teeth out. The NY bred filly had three months actually training with a TB trainer.

Mine have been getting plumped, conditioned and shined for a month and a half or so .. the Skip Away looks AWESOME, his butt has finally filled out and No More Narrow on him, the motor is finally in place.

I'm planning on camping in the tack room we've been assigned. My neighbor has a big rig and will haul the horses in on the 8th (it's ONE trip for him, would be THREE trips for me with my 2-horse!) Gosh it feels a bit like heading off to camp! I hope people will come by for a chat, if nothing else.

im thinking about going myself, id like to retire one of the older mares there and see if i could get one foal out of her. i was looking at the mares consigned by Fayette Farms. they shouldnt even be going to auction they should enjoy retirement. id like to breed my 25 year old stallion with one more mare. Dr. Koch.. any suggestions on the best fitting mare at the sale for him?

Well out of the Fayette "Matron" bunch, my first choice for your stallion would be #355 by Balzac and second would be #164 the Great Above mare.

I've never sold at F-T but at Keeneland if you go to the office, you can get update sheets to fill out. They are then turned in (at Keeneland) right next to where you go to set your reserve. I would imagine the system would be somewhat similar at F-T so you might want to go to the office and ask when you get there. We usually turn our updates in early in the morning on the day that we sell.

Feel free to make some extra sheets to post outside the stalls - ie, "90 days' training under saddle". Photos or videos of the horses under saddle would be a bonus.

Does KY have sales tax on geldings?

Good luck!!

Thanks! With regard to sales tax, I believe is it charged on all racing prospects (weanling, yearling, 2yo, 3yo, etc.) but only if the horse is remaining in KY for training. There is no tax on breeding stock.

There are 3 Storm Cats sold in the first 90 minutes or so....I guess Fasig Tipton wants people bidding early and often.

Well, good luck with the sale, Madelyn. I found clh's posts on the recent Keeneland sale to be very informative, so I'm hoping you'll have some thoughts to share with us when you return.

Good luck Madelyn :) Okay - what are you planning on buying now that we know what you are selling (HA).

If you get a chance take a look at hip #260 - Royal Cup. She's a half to my mare Laird's Cup and was just wondering what she was like. Don't think I am going to make it down to this sale with the mares and grandbaby. Plus, second grandbaby will be due anytime around that time :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have a successful sale!

Well Madelyn will say she's not going to buy anything, then she will espy a mare which we all covet and get it for an astoundingly cheap price.

I wonder why F-T doesnt ever put the PP's on the horses that are selling as racing prospects on their site like Keenland does?

Hey, I'm sure you already saw this, but they have her listed under "broodmares" along with the 2YOs( :!: ) The 3YO geldings are listed under "horses of racing age."

Good luck at the sale, and we can't wait to hear which new broodmares you bring home. I agree with Geo, you won't be able to leave with an empty trailer.

Thanks, Rogue, yes I know, the fillies are in the Broodmare/Racing Prospect section and the geldings are in the Racing Prospect section.

You don't know up front how the catalog will be organized. I marked the fillies as racing prospect AND broodmare prospect on the entry form.

Do you have Laird's Honor? This mare is one of my triple star picks because she is by Roy (the other is #248).

There are a number of REALLY nice mares in here, maybe not six-seven figure mares. But there is a lot LESS junk than Keeneland had. There are a couple of mares with no page at all.. I look at those and think well some agent booked her to a stallion and laughed all the way to the bank with his commission check.
