West Va. Fall Mixed Sale
OK, I'm glancing through the catalog and I come to hip #9. How do you breed to an "Unknown Stallion?" I've heard of a mare being covered by two different stallions and listing both names, but this is a new one for me.

leveeguy,
I still post here but under my "nom-de-forum" as "merse."
Raffle had a very difficult delivery this spring and, as a result, developed a large hematoma. The vet recommended giving her time off to let her heal to ensure her breeding viability in the future. I always try to do what's best for the horse so we didn't breed her.
My plan had been to breed her to Rock Slide and then, based upon whether she was carrying a colt or filly (I wanted a filly) either keep her or re-sell her at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed sale. Being barren, I figured she might not even get a bid at Timonium or, at the very least, real close to the upset price. The Charles Town sale allowed me to "get out early" by not having to pay two-plus more months of board, vets, etc.. I also thought, with her pedigree that she would get more lookers/bidders at Charles Town.
She is a nice mare, a good mother, and produces well-conformed foals. Her 2006 filly by Mojave Moon got a ribbon at the Maryland Yearling Show last June and her 2007 Domestic Dispute colt will be offered at Keeneland November. Despite being from a Regional stallion, the consigner felt he had the conformation to attract pinhookers (even in the Keeneland market) so I am rolling the dice that he brings more in Kentucky than in Maryland. I wish her new owners much luck with her.
