Dreams on the Wind, yearling KY-bred filly by Millennium Wind out of Vivid Dreams, sells tomorrow, Monday the 24th. As I was searching through the sales catalog index of sires, it's obvious that the great majority of those selling the final two days are just ordinary horses by studs of $10K fee or under, and lesser foals of more expensive horses.
I sure hope the strong sale results continue for Monday, Tuesday. But the daily median/average are spiraling downward with each book. She sells without reserve, so check her out if you're at the sale--very well-made classy filly.

I will check her out tomorrow....good luck. Have been here the last 5 days. Sometimes the good one are bringing good prices. Sometimes they slip through. There have been some good state breds going for next to nothing. Interesting sale.

She looked great... just not enough pedigree and a non-commercial sire. Someone got a nice race prospect though, at $1000.

What a disappointment! I'll be paying in to the consignor, just to clear the books. And I haven't even paid the vet bills for the presale films and endoscopy. For a minute there, I thought I would be taking her home because of no bid. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! this breeding game.

If the tide turns in my direction, she'll get to pay me back with breeders incentives from Kentucky, and Breeders' Cup nominator awards. We'll just have to wait and see. By then maybe my 2008 Sky Classic half-sib will be valuable because of her. Who knows?!

Sorry things didn't go better. When I saw RNA, I thought that she hadn't sold.

You're right, Judi, she didn't sell. The consignor felt it would be worse for selling her later if she was listed as "no bid" at the sale. Hence the RNA (reserve not attained) designation. The good news is she scoped and xrayed okay, and gets to come home to Oklahoma for some rest and relaxation, and to cease the more expensive boarding rates of KY.

We really don't know if either Millennium Wind or Vivid Dreams will have an impressive produce record over time.

If your goal is to sell foals at auction, you are going to have more black type up close. I'm not trying to rub salt in your wounds, but this filly had no chance at Keeneland. Even with a more commercial sire like Sky Classic (and he isn't a barn burner at the sales) you'll still have two unraced dams who have produced little. That's a lot to saddle a yearling with, even when they are gorgeous.

This mare is not going to get you big bucks in the sales ring. If you were planning on racing them yourself, then that's another story.

Springboro, you read my mind. I really thought she would be a physical standout at the barns on a day of mixed livestock quality. I've already traded out the dam and practically gave away this girl's injured nonwinning sister. Both the farm manager and the consignor thought she would bring a fair price, but she's the only one the consignor didn't sell today. Just not enough buyers looking for ordinary pedigree horses. I suspect tomorrow will be worse. And the consignor said she didn't show very well, didn't draw any attention to herself.

If I had even dreamed she would go for less than $3000, I wouldn't have tried to sell her. There are four Millennium Winds in the sale catalog, and two were OUTs, mine RNA, and one scheduled tomorrow. I should have known better.

Henthorn, it's inexplicable, really. i once consigned a flashy athletic pancho villa weanling to the january sale--zero bids. that colt was easily the nicest horse in the sale. you'd think that there'd be buyers looking for horses instead of catalogue pages. those types seem few in number, and this may be the problem for us unconnected folk consigning good horses. i'm still waiting for someone in the know to explain the irrational bidding . each horse has their own story, but some of this mindless, brainless stuff has got to have an explanation that makes some sense.( like that jackpot (yes, jackpot) out of the bonus money mare that sold today for 45,000.).

The Jackpot was a very suspicious sale, indeed.

The Blacktype Up Close rule was rammed home with the filly that sold yesterday for $120K by Salt Lake.. who had really no black type until you got to her and she was half to a GSW.

I thought I was fairly safe for next year with Believe It Shesdue bred to Cape Town and Miss Courageous to Osidy, but now I wonder if half to Devil His Due (Bitsy) and Flying Continental under the 2nd dam (MC) are anywhere near enough.. :roll:

I sat at the computer and watched most of the sale and there were many times I was asking if these babies had their legs on backwards. Then I'd see others with no page going for good money. I sat scratching my head a bunch with this sale.
