Another Keeneland September come and gone

Postby Toccet02 » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:32 pm

Since I'm really trying to learn about this game, and see how my instincts play out, I actually looked at the catalogue pages for ALL these yearlings over the past few weeks.
I liked 1% of them. Literally. 57 yearlings; 3 OUT so 54 to track.
Made a note of them, and I'll see how they end up doing!

Oh and the average sale price of "my" yearlings was $78K.
Anyone else play this game? How did you do?

I did this last year at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic yearling sale but haven't checked to see how they have performed as a 2yo. That is a great idea to help train your eye.

I read all the pages every year. Then I read the "cheat book" pages on about a third of them. Usually I look at 500-600 yearlings, bid on many and end up buying one or two. I always keep tabs on the ones I was the underbidder on to see how they do at the races.

This year we bought early in the sale so I didn't look at nearly as many yearlings back at the barn as I have at past sales. But I still really enjoy sitting in the pavillion, looking at the pages, and then--when the yearlings walk in the ring--seeing how the reality compares with what I expected. It's a great way to learn about what different stallions and different families produce.

I've got a bunch of aging-out nephews and nieces, Roke--
want some books like that?
