F-T October MidAtlantic: the new F-T Texas?

Postby kimberley mine » Wed Sep 26, 2007 12:13 pm

Usually this sale is a combination wrecking yard/trash heap...lots of horses who SHOULD have turned out better but didn't getting sold to stop the bleeding. A lot of the horses here just aren't good enough for Keeneland September or any other big sale. Going through this catalogue is usually pretty depressing but there are a few bright spots.

I have noticed, however, that it is starting to resemble the Texas sales in that it is becoming a regional market. Yes, Maryland-breds and Kentucky-breds still dominate. But just like F-T Texas in August had a LOT of good LA- and OK-breds, more and more VA, PA, NJ, and WV-breds are being sold here, as well as a couple of Delware Certified runners. This could be a nice place to pick up a decent, honest racehorse with good earning potential on a budget.

The biggest variety and best on paper appear to be the PA-breds. There are registered Pennsylvania-breds by Lite the Fuse, Meadow Monster, Najran, Jump Start, Langfuhr, Honor Glide, Royal Academy, Cryptoclearance and Gilded Time.

#203, a Meadow Monster colt, is Delaware Certified, Maryland Million eligible, and a registered PA-bred.

One that really caught my eye:

#59, Quiet American filly out of a winning Known Fact mare. This filly has 6 siblings, four of whom are winners and all the winners have won at least $41,000. She is a New Jersey-bred, which means she's eligible for NJ-bred AND NY-bred races (right?). There is some decent stakes production under her 2nd dam.

I don't think she's elegible for the NY Bred races, they're very strict about that, she has to be foaled in NY and the mare has to also adhere to strict residency rules.

I've always thought this sale was a regional sale, maybe there are more WVA breds and PA breds, but there have always been some. Some big names send agents to this sale. Urbane came out of this sale a few years ago.

I've always thought that you could get a decent runner out of this sale if you did your homework.

What did the Meadow Monster colt [hip 203] sale for.

How much do you think the triple qualification is worth in the sales ring [Maryland Millions, Delaware Certified & PABRED] ???

griff,

Only 5,500. I don't have my book with me, (it's out in the car) as soon as I can I'll look to see if I made any notes. I have my stepson's wedding to go to this weekend so I might not be posting much.

Ugh! not a fan of weddings at all...................
