KEE November - Do you find this acceptable

Postby clh » Mon Nov 19, 2007 2:16 pm

Although lots of folks were thrilled with their sales results and some were not (I fall into the category of being thrilled one day and not thrilled another day ;) - does anyone else find these figures disturbing? Keeneland brags about the number of hips entered in their sale, talks about the prices of their sales, the medians, the averages, etc.... So a total of 5,415 horses were catalogued but a total of 2,034 were either OUTS or RNA's - meaning only 3,381 horses actually sold.

Seems to me someone ought to be talking about the number of OUTS and RNA's when talking about a successful or not successful sale.

Yep--I agree...but what's the most dominant reason for an Out?

I think they look at the bottom line when deciding whether or not it was successful...did they make more than last year? I think that might be more important to them at the end of the day.

I think the late outs are mainly because of rising fear that they won't get the price they want for the horse. Sometimes they are sold outside.

There is no doubt that there are some serious spin doctors working to make it look loke the sales were a roaring success.
