Timonium Review

Postby Monmouth Matt » Wed May 21, 2008 7:33 am

I see Dray picked one up (maybe more) on the second day. Not being there this year makes it tricky to talk prices and hips, but as usual, noticed a few that caught my eye below the $25k ramge...... probably vetted poorly or were crooked, but any comments on the following would be appreciated:

* 64 Johannesburg (f) (NS 19k).....nice racemare...bred well previously
* 241 Concerto (g) $8.5k out if a real nice racemare
* 190 Smoke Glacken (c) $17k out of nice racemare
* 494 Forestry (g) (NS 25k)... hummmm...nice
* 484 Rahy (c) (NS $14k).... nice racemare...video looked decent...love Rahy

Plenty of others, but these are are handful that I thought looked decent on video and are bred well enough to run a bit
And DOWN the stretch they come!

A half-sister to The Green Monkey (the $16 million dollar man), by Vindication, sold for $27,000. This one would also be a full sister to Coat The Cubes who, like The Green Monkey, is unplaced.

I looked at that Vindication filly. She was okay. She'll do better than the Green Monkey did on the track. But some of the stars that come out of this sale will be:

#279 A beautiful Repent filly that went for only 28k
#219 A good looking War Chant colt that went for only 17k
#448 A nice solid Medaglia D'Oro filly that went for 100k

This sale always has some good opportunities....but it was fairly crowded this year even though proceeds were off from prior years.

There were quite a few high prices this year but there certainly didn't seem to be much of a middle market. This does seem to be a sale where, every year, discerning buyers come away with some very good deals.

ct2346, I think you meant #278 for the Repent filly.

I would like to have seen hip #648, who sold for $30K. She's from an unraced half-sister to our grand old gelding, the first horse we ever bought, whom we still have. He's now 11, going on 3. His dam was a GSW, who died after foaling an Orientate filly this year. I'd love to see her, too.
