Barretts Fall Mixed Sale Canceled For 2009
Moderators: Roguelet, WaveMaster, madelyn
That's too bad, since several breeders in the past that had yearlings accepted to the Barretts Select could then go to the October mixed if for whatever reason their yearling had to pull out of the select sale. Now, if a breeder is pointing towards the select sale and the yearling gets sick, there is no fall back except to do the whole 2 year old thing. Just makes it harder than it already is.
Yea, I read it, and I think having the focus on yearlings is a good thing, and having just one mixed sale in Jan is also good since the pickin's have been pretty slim, but if you have a nice yearling who because of unforseen circumstances has to pull out of the select sale, adding another day doesn't do much. Having that mixed sale a month or so later was a viable option that is now gone.

It is well known that Barrett's has long been influenced by a few of their big breeder/seller/buyers. Their decisions tend to reflect what is best for their big customers, not what is good for California breeding and racing, necessarily.
Maybe that is just "business", but in some ways, that comes back to haunt them, in cancelled sales, and everyone in cal racing, with fewer options.
