Hennry Hughes

Postby Affirmed1 » Thu Sep 16, 2010 1:36 pm

If you look at the Henny Hughes sales numbers in general, they are pretty uninspiring. His offspring who are already running haven't exactly set the world on fire, yet.

I've been especially following him because Cuando Quiere, Honey Ryder's dam, foaled an HH this year. Because of her age, this will probably be her last foal. Possible bummer. :x

As the broodies products, after five times a non winner, are not elegible for any
preminuns any more. In france that is 60% bonus up to the purses

That would definitely force a broodmare owner to breed to something other than the stallion with the highest stud fees.

Starting to look like car crash TV.

Averages are now way down but not stated in reports after the reports of the first three days an increase in averages - pathetic journalism.

If you compare day-by-day (and by hips covered) rather than by the books--since the schedule is different than the previous sales--you can see that by average and median the sale is actually quite a bit stronger than last year. Nobody is setting the world on fire (unless you own a Malibu Moon  ) but the market is slowly improving.

I wouldn't be surprised if things drop off pretty sharply for the last three books though.

What I heard from someone back there who has bought a handful so far is that the good horses are tough to buy and you still have to pay real money. Where the market is just dead is on the horse that should be 6 figures by page and physical but doesn't vet well and the buyers are looking for $40,000 to get out. Either those horses are RNAing or they are selling for four figures because no one is on them. People are really shying away from bad scopes and suspicious XRs this year no matter what the horse looks like otherwise.

She is gorgeous--chestnut, blaze, 3 white socks. Not built after her dam. 16K. Once again, anyone know anything, YB2 is my fave mare. Thanks!

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Surely you dont mean, or think, that the dams of these yearlings were poor quality. So what exactly does that mean?

You can't make any assumptions on the quality of a mare or the thought that went into the breeding based on the prices you're seeing. So many of the breeders just need to get out on these horses that they will let them go for whatever they bring no matter how low. And since there are plenty of yearlings to choose from, the questionable ones (for whatever reason) have NO buyers. The sales have always been a beauty pagent. It wouldn't surprise me to see some of those selling for under 5K turn into good racehorses.

The fact that they sold for 1,000 speaks for itself, but perhaps you know better?
