Who bred the consigned horse?

On the sales catalog pages we read at the top "consigned by or property of," but that doesn't necessarily tell the prospective buyer who bred the TB. How do you find out who the breeder is when looking at a particular hip# in person or by referencing the catalog? Is there a repository for registration information at the sales? To some, this might be important information.

My first step would be to go to the Jockeyclub.com and look up the horse there. Sometimes they have that info there.
Then there are other ways too.
but thats my first choice

horses change hands so many times before they get to the sale, or even catloged it can be mind numbing. Also the property may belong to a partnership created after the breeder was named.

I like knowing that information as well, but I got hunting everywhere for information never listed in a consignor-toggled catalog page.

Crystal: Thanks. I figured it would take some investigative work. You've got me pointed in the right direction.

For horses entered in any of the Keeneland sales, the name of the breeder(s) is readily available.

The KeeSep catalogue is currently online. Open the "update" link for the hip number you're interested in and the breeder's name will be listed at the top.
