listening to the auctioneers, its difficult to determine if a horse is sold or RNA-how can you tell?

Think you have to wait till they post results...it will ether list a buyer or say RNA
takes about an hour?? Maybe less.

I can't tell either. Maybe it's "Mitch" or one of those other names the auxctioneer calls at the end. Or when they say "in the back"? You could note wha they say and look up results

You can't. Not until results are posted.

Results posted is the only way, unless you are sitting next to the consignor/owner and they are happy to tell you.

In the event of a sale a ticket is taken to the buyer - the buyer signs, is given a copy and the ticket is sent to the office.

If you are seated in the arena there will be a cluster of Keeneland employees to the left of the auctioneer's stand. One of these gentlemen will take the ticket to the buyer. If they do not, and the horse is an RNA, you will see them complete the form and place it in the tube to be sent to the sales office (similar to drive through bank).

If the buyer is in the back, the ticket will be taken to the back.

Once you have attended enough auctions (and if you have been a studious observer) you will recognize RNA's by the auctioneer's cadence and call.
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.
