Keeneland November - anyone else do this?

I make a list of horses in the last catalog that I *think* i could afford and then justify the potential purchase.

There are some (actually, a lot) of Calumet grass mares being dropped into this sale with 2019 stud fees attached. That is so appealing.

Some of my front runners are:
4241 French mare (french in name only - the pedigree is pure USA) who was a turf sprint specialist and stakes placed. Light catalog page in France and foals by Red Rocks, English Channel and Producer. In foal to Producer with a 2019 season to Grey Swallow of Behesht.

4481 by Distorted Humor, 1/2 to a stakes placed Street Cry filly. 2nd dam is a sister to Fu Peg. In foal to millionaire Tapit son Cupid on a February cover.

4245 Irish mare by Rock of Gibraltar out of a sister to SW Alnamara and family of Sakhee. Foal by Red Rocks, in foal to Big Blue Kitten, and sells with a 2019 breeding to Musketier or Producer.

4423 stakes placed Lear Fan mare, whose highest speed rating came on a dirt track switched off turf! Not a lot of black type, but this mare ran every time she was asked. Her foals have done nothing, and she's in foal to Ironicus. This is one of those non-commercial mares I adore and hope she lands softly!

4316 by Saint Liam out of a stakes placed AP Indy mare. Not a lot of black type. Foals by Musketier, English Channel, and Snapy Halo. In foal to the provocative Bal a Bali, with 2019 mating to Oxbow or Raison d'Etat (which are both dead commercially as already pointed out here)

4475 by Successful Appeal, from the family of champion Golden Attraction (2nd dam). Foals by Aikenite, Oxbow, Red Rocks, Raison d'Etat. Not pregnant to Keen Ice and seels with 2019 breeding.

thoughts?

Thanks for sharing your list Springboro - I'll toss in a few comments

4241 Not a fan. Not a top Euro sire there. nor much up close

4481 by Distorted Humor, Love Dh as bm sire - nice individual could be attractive in sale. Some decent runners in the ff, beyond FuPeg incl Pine Bluff

4245 Irish mare by Rock of Gibraltar out of a sister to SW Alnamara and family of Sakhee. Sahkee was sooo good as a runner. and some decent ones close up. I like BBKitten

4423 stakes placed Lear Fan mare, This one may b sneaky good. While the halfs don't have Black type, they are winners of decent cash, and the mare herself is sp with a few more produceable years. Last two have a chance to improve the page significantly. .

4316 by Saint Liam out of a stakes placed AP Indy mare. Like this one best - love St Liam as bmsire. SP AP Indy mare half to the dam of a millionaire. Lots to like here - the CAlumet sires aren't helping.

4475 by Successful Appeal, from the family of champion Golden Attraction (2nd dam). Would take just one solid producer under Golden Attraction would make this look a lot better. Suc. Appeal gets no love

thoughts?

My Br Cup results were disappointing so I probably won't be buying anything this go around so I won't be bidding against you, but I like the page on the St. Liam a lot.

By the way - Adena Springs has some nice in foal/breedings offered on some of their mares including Mucho Macho Man. They got a nice little custom catalog if you want it with extra info.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know why #53 (Paynter-Yankee Victoria) was run through twice? I saw the second time, somewhere in the 80's, and she only had one bid for 10k. What was the issue?

I was not there to see this one but typically this happens when the seller has someone bidding the horse up to try to catch live money or they had a reserve or the bidder failed to sign the purchase etc. and they are a consignor with the juice to get the horse run through again. When they run it through again they oftentimes have a buyer lined up to buy.

Wow LOVELY family... but. She is unraced from a dam with nothing to offer. For me it would be all about the physical. She would have to be just gorgeous. And she was bred and did not take which is a bad sign in a young mare...

LOTS of good opportunities for anyone wanting a mare, if age isn't too big a concern. Wish I could be there to pick up one or two,
