Keeneland digital sale

I realize that this post is a bit after the fact but I was surprised by what a bust the December digital sale was.
Wrong time? Wrong place?

Or sign of the times?

I don't think Kee does this well in that all of the bids need to go down on one day whereas many online auctions have several days if not weeks to get a bid in, and track them. In the auctions the flow of bids is important but on a digital auction I don't think people sit around all day watching for a bid, but at most wait til the last minute. I think if they accepted bids for several days there might be more action early and send a message that the sale is for real. I'm guessing that in a depressed market many are probably holding out for a higher price that never (and will never) show up.

I think this is a difficult format for the kind of horses Keeneland sells. I'm a retired computer systems engineer and no stranger to technology but I have to admit I would not want to buy that kind of horse this way. I need the personal inspection etc.
