Very much so, but if one was patient there were deals to be had. I am just thankful that I was able to walk away with my top pick of the broodmares at a price well-below what I thought she was worth.

Madelyn - I always appreciate your thoughts on mating, so I am wondering what you would do with the mare I bought out of this sale, which was #3226. She's a 3/4 sister to Battaash (the true 'fastest horse in the world', contrary to what Elliot Walden says about Cogburn.) Her female family has done best when linebred back to Northern Dancer, particularly when one of the stains has Danzig.

Would War Front be the best match for her in your opinion or would you look elsewhere?

If money was not a consideration...and at first glance
War Front does bring in a heavy dose of Danzig however he is 23 years old. If you follow the theory that horses' DNA modifies when they race to magnify the DNA they need most for racing I would be concerned that he is too far removed from racing, ie: the DNA modified back to what suits farm life, and I would not want to take an unraced mare to him. Of course there is probably one or two examples that would disprove that theory. In this same class she might go well with Medaglia d'Oro.

Dark Angel has a strain of Machiavellan and a proven horse of that line is Street Sense, brining in ND through Dixieland Band..

On a pure pedigree match, I like War of Will sat Claiborne with War Front AND Sadler's Wells... at 15k cheapest of the bunch.

I may have time later for a deeper analysis. Lovely mare, though.
