Does anyone know what's physically wrong with the following horses in todays session? (pedigrees looked good on paper to me)
0117 -- ch F -- Thunder Gulch x Turko's Turn -- RNA (475,000)
(the final bid was quite a bit lower, in the 100k-200k range???)
0166 -- ch C -- Storm Cat x Blissful -- sold $180,000
0226 -- gr/ro F -- Fusaichi Pegasus x Fountain Lake -- sold $65,000
0256 -- dkb/br C -- Gone West x Jostle -- sold $100,000
Keeneland September Yearling Sale--info, please?

Here's a link to the Gone West-Jostle http://horsephotos.com/watermark.jsp?photoID=28773
And the Storm Cat-Bliss, who I personally don't think is good looking at all. http://horsephotos.com/watermark.jsp?photoID=28768

0363 -- Storm Cat x Spain -- final bid $150,000
I cant figure out the Danehill. That pedigree is amazing. I figured there would be a lot more interest.
From what I could see of the Spain online, he was tiny and his legs looked like match sticks.
Can't say about his back, wasnt looking at that, but you could be right. The video feed is hard to tell for sure. The Secret Status colt I didn't like much. He looked kind of heavy for me, at least the photo up on Horsephotos. He's pretty balanced...just heavy. But he looked good on the feed, and sold damn well, at least until hip 384 came along.
You don't know what was in the x-rays..... Also, I believe there are just fewer buyers competing for fewer horses overall. There were some seven-figure ones, that's certainly not the first Storm Cat this year to not even get stud fee... I saw one at Saratoga, by Storm Cat out of no less than Sacahuista, bring only $385K. If you don't have the numbers of bidders, there is nothing else to drive up the price...
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
I guess it all comes down to 'bloodstock value' or 'no bloodstock value.' The distribution of prices for Storm Cat colts is bimodal-- there are 3 that sold for in the 150-200,000 range (the "probably going to have no stud value" category), while the other 11 were between 625k and 9,7M ("stud value a conceivable possibility" category).
Or you could see it as tri-modal:
3 in 150-200k range ("no stud value")
4 in 625-825k range ("neither Sheikh Mohammed nor Coolmore were interested")
7 in 1-10M range ("bidding war")
Fillies were bimodal too.
3 in 210-310k
5 in 1-4M
I guess the 'send your mare to Storm Cat' business plan is hit or miss.

Whatever happened to the $8 mil. yearling? It went to Baffert right and is a 2yo now? Mr. Sekiguchi's colt. Anybody know what's up with that?
Anytime you get into a bidding duel with the Maktoums you're sunk 90% of the time. If they don't want it as badly as you they might let it go but if they decide it's worth it, you can't beat their pockets.

"Big Bucks" is with Baffert. I've read that he is planning on taking it slow with him and pointing him to the TC next year. We'll see if that ever happens.
