Not to go dramatically offtopic but a mare in foal to Smarty Jones went for 950,000. Holy crap. Yeah looks like his sales will be okay but is that reasonable? I mean if you got mares going for that high in foal to Smarty doesn't it figure the foals themselves would look good on pedigree alone? Either the mares are worth that much or the pedigrees strike people as that good right? Sight unseen on the foal even so unless they're crooked...

F. Eugene Dixon, Jr. paid the second-highest price of the day -- $950,000 -- for the stakes-winning mare Solvig, in foal to Smarty Jones. Richard Abbott’s Charlton Bloodstock signed the ticket as agent for Dixon’s Erdenheim Farm.
Solvig, a 9-year-old mare by Caerleon, was consigned by Gainesway, as agent for the dispersal of Bentley L. Smith.
“She was a great race mare and Mr. Dixon was interested in getting a mare in foal to Smarty Jones,” Abbott said. “She has a lovely yearling filly (by Giant’s Causeway).”
Abbott said Solvig will be sent to his Charlton Farm near Cochranville, Pennsylvania, to foal and will probably be bred to Afleet Alex. Both Dixon and Abbott serve on the Pennyslvania Racing Commission, as chairman and commissioner, respectively, and Abbott said Dixon wanted to “support the home team.” Sounds like she sure is getting opportunities to all the name stallions.
