Calder 2 Year Old in Training Sale:

Postby dray33 » Sat Jan 21, 2006 11:53 am

By the way, the first horse I ever pinhooked is on the COVER of the Fasig-Tipton Catalog! She is DIPLOMAT LADY... who was consigned by Hoby Kight (he did a fantastic job with her) and she went on to win the G1 Hollywood Starlet after I sold her (bittersweet?)...

You can see it (albeit small) on the website @:
http://fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2006/02 ... 022806.htm

By the way, here are the three horses I have in this years sale:

HOBY & LAYNA KIGHT, AGENT III --Barn 76

128 2004 ch.c by Yes It's True--Jaded Love
http://fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2006/0228/128.pdf

136 2004 ch.f by Include--Lady Biscayne
http://fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2006/0228/136.pdf

267 2004 ch.c by Freud--Sultry Secret
http://fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2006/0228/267.pdf

Here is the 411 on these 3:

136: Filly: She is by Include (Broad Brush is his sire) and has a beautiful body. She is not the "typical" 2 year old horse, like her sire should get better with age. May not breeze the fastest, but will look good on the grounds and may just be great at 3.

128 and 267: Both are spectacular, and are expected to breeze like crazy horses. But we wont know till the show. I am really excited about these 2 colts. The Freud might be one of the best Freuds there is, he is big and leggy... strong boned, yet a May foal! The Yes It's True is all class, and fast. Not a bad one-two punch. I am really looking forward to the breeze show and sale.

Love to hear your thoughts on these Hips, and any others you are looking at. Also, if you were looking for a well-pedigreed filly to race/then keep as a broodie, which would you chose?

Hey Drew, it looks like you're loaded for bear. It should be a fun sale for you. :)

Actually I was just looking at my schedule, trying to see if there was a way I could make it down to watch the excitement. I looked at a whole bunch of those fillies last year in July and September and was the underbidder on one of them (Gone West x Existentialist. don't know the hip offhand.) She would make a dandy broodmare prospect when she's done racing.

I see her, she is hip 79 in this sale... and one I "earmarked" for lookin' at. She was bought for 55k if I am not mistaken. Great pedigree.

All of this, of course, has much to do with how they breeze. Usually, if the horse does not breeze in the top 10%, they get hammered down at a discount. I have heard that in Japan, they do not allow a horse in the 2 year old sales to breeze quickly. Actually they put a ban on anything under 12 seconds (or something like that). I think it makes sense.

I think I am well positioned going in, and by all accounts the horses should breeze quickly. But it's a dice roll. I can't wait to see how it all adds up.

The Gone West filly is a GREAT looking girl. They just decided to pinhook her in October because she was progressing so nicely and so fast which is why I bailed. I think she will be a great buy for whoever gets her on the track and in the shed. Amazing pedigree.

Talked to Hoby today, had a few questions:

1) How the horses doin'?
A) Excellent. The Include filly has improved by "leaps and bounds".

2) When ya breezing them?
A) Tuesday, call ya in the afternoon to report.

3) I love the pedigree on 2 of the fillys Hoby has. Hip 58 and Hip 103. How are these two?
A) Hip 103 is a Deputy Minister. She is lights-out fast. He is taking it easy and slow with her because she is a May foal, but already she has shown incredible speed and beautiful stride. I'm gonna take a looooong look at this one. Hip 58 is a Grand Slam from an ol' favorite family I follow. He says right now, though not as quick as the DM filly, should be more of a long term race horse and is a beautiful mover. I will be looking closely at her too. I love both pedigree pages.

I asked him one final time (before his breeze day) about the 2 colts. "Drew, these 2 should be Stakes winning colts. You are in great shape down here". He loves them as much as he loved my Forestry filly last year (Diplomat Lady).

I will have aa additional small peice of the puzzle on Tuesday afternoon...

Coq. Any thoughts about the 2 Hips mentioned? 58 and 103?

Well I'm not Coq but, based solely on their pages, I'd be happy to have either one of those two fillies as a broodmare prospect. The Deputy Minister, in particular, comes from a wonderful family.

By the way, I tried to send you a pm about the Gone West filly, but I'm not sure it went anywhere. Did you ever get it?

I totally agree with LSB, as usual when it comes to the families. Very good families with the Deputy Minister being the better of the two from a pedigree perspective.

Agreed. I have a personal relationship with the other pedigree, but I would rather have the page that is offered by the DM. I will see how they breeze, and see if I can get a deal on any of them. :D

My first thought when I saw the picture of the Include was...

"Wow, that's a filly?"

Good luck!

Thanks kimberly, morningside. She's a beautiful filly. Being from the family of Broad Brush, I wonder is she will only get better with age. Be interesting how the breeze/sale goes.
