Cow hocked yearling

Postby magic code » Sun Jan 06, 2008 8:16 pm

I have a March 2007 foal that's now cowhocked. She wasn't 2 months ago. Chances she'll grow out of it? Anything I can do?

I believe that rasping the outsides of her rear hooves lower than the inside will help her. Do not get too aggressive. Slow and steady every 3 or 4 weeks.

I foaled and raised a Pleasant Tap colt who toed out pretty dramatically behind. At the time, I had an outstanding farrier in Ocala who trimmed a little correction into his feet each month from the beginning. Additionally too, as his butt began to fill out at about twelve months his feet began to rotate back in. By the time I put him in training at 22 months, he was pretty correct behind and still is.
So don't panic.
The talented ones will give you an early hint.

Hey, if she doesn't grow out of it, at least she'll never scalp.
