Displacement: What Works?
Have a horse displacing when he gets excited. What has worked for you?

Displacement = displacement of the soft palate, reducing air flow to the lungs.
Is the horse nervous or excited in the paddock area when saddled? Is he washy or have foam between his back legs in reasonably cool weather during post parade (or paddock)?

Never weighed in til now because I thought all of the possible remedies would be posted.
I would try, in this order:
tongue tie
serenas song bit
flying w bit
injecting throat with depo medrol
cornell collar (if allowed)
Llewellyn procedure - there is also a surgery to shave off part of the tissue that obstructs the airway (Staphylectomy) but if surgery is the option, I'd just go ahead and get the llewellyn, which is generally more effective.
There is a possibility that even if you do all of the above, it may not get the desired results, but doing nothing certainly won't....
