PMS'ing Filly

Ok there were one million reasons why I have only surrounded myself with geldings and colts, and my filly has reminded me that apparently I lost my head in buying her.

She is bonkers in heat. She's getting fitter with the 15 + mile weekly ponying we do with her and she is now, within the past 2 weeks, really coming on strong at playing dominance games with the lead "I really do believe I'm a Stallion" gelding who apparently is non plused by her recent wicked ways. And during her times I am the only person she is not downright mean with, as I think I have planted myself as numero uno on her psyche. But anyone else.....watch out!!

Other than ponying which has become a little more difficult, I am noticing tender flanks and a totally unwilling attitude. Turn her loose in the field and she loves you , but ask her to do work and she hates you. This started last fall, quelled for winter (thank god) and alas spring has sprung..... so without further adieu...... WHAT IN GODS NAME CAN I GIVE MY MOODY FILLY?? I NEEEEEEED Motrin, so I understand I do, but what other than Regumate is suggested... and if you have used Regumate, what did you think?

I have also looked at Red Raspberry leaves as they are in a product called Mare Magic, but I am just skeptical of that .

Any suggestions will be greatly welcomed. She just loses her mind totally. She went thru the electic fence sideways yesterday because all of the sudden when her gelding buddy wouldn't fight with her and she started buzzing the 6 acre pasture at warp speed, lost her footing on a soft spot and the rest is history. She also is allowed to go in and out of her stall at leisure.

I can't wait to pop up in the saddle at the end of this month....thrills... She only has maybe 5 days of this god awful behaivor each time, but I don't want to see the girl hurt herself like she almost did yesterday. Oh and is this just ATTITUDE or is this a basket case with hooves??? Or I am just used to Walking horses and Quarter horses ....ahhhh the days of yore. (she'll be calendar 2 at the end of this month)

Spex, I sympathize. Brainless idiot 15% of the time is what mine is, she also was my first Tb and I swore I'd never get another one, what happens when I say never? I can't imagine life without one (Tb mare). I knew arabs were smart, clever and showed lots of personality but Tb's play games, they invent games, they want your attention, they perform for attention. TG mine only hurt herself once and it wasn't a performance altering injury. She went over a 5 ft fence to wander about loose while no one was home for several hours, no sign of any damage to any fence,gate etc. I've also seen her go 60 ft in reverse just to kick a gelding, almost chase, change direction but stay in reverse like she's telling him today I am going to get you with both barrels. Yes, regumate will help, be sure and do as they say and wear gloves. I thought I was expert about handling stuff and it only took tiny unfelt specks of the stuff to turn me into 36DDD. Have you ultrasounded her? Cysts?
Madelyn who puts in the marble? Are they special marbles?

Our QH mare was the same way. An old cowboy friend told me to put 2 pre-1960 pennies in her water trough. The pre 1960's are real copper and it leaches into the water. It worked within the week.
She was still opinionated, but no longer a major PMS problem.

I've heard of the marble but do not have first hand experience with it. Regu-mate is effective but it isn't cheap. Good luck with the cranky girl

Thank you for the sympathy and suggestions. My jekyll and hyde girl was love queen today, my husband (who about got smacked) remarked he thought I was bad.....

I am going to talk to my vet about the marble, I have heard of that before, but I think I truly thought there was no way something so simple could work . My friend that has hannoverians, swears by some stuff called Relax Her blend for her gigantic field monsters. SOOO I broke down and ordered some before conking out this morning.

I am also going to try the copper idea, either with or after the herbal supplement...... then I wouldn't care if regumate was 1000 an ounce, I'll try it too. A moody mare fine, I can deal but one that actually just flips out for no reason, no way. She is my baby girl and I want her safe, first and foremost.

And god forbid I drip Reg on me anywhere.... I'm a hair beyond ya Diane, and I sure as hell don't need any extra!!

Wanted to share my halle-freaking-lujah moment.....

Relax-Her is the bomb. Not only did I ride my filly for her third time under saddle last night (which was awesomely good), but it was right in the midst of her being in full blown gimme some lovin' heat. Which I did not even pick up on til she tried to harass my gelding who wanted none of her sexy tail.

I only give half of this stuff than what it directs and I am super pleased with the results. It is either that it is a miracle or all those talks about marbles in the nether regions that flipped her switch!!! Thanks everyone for your input, my neighbor opted to go with the pennies and she swears thats doing well too!! This is a great forum!!
