Stock Tanks questions..

Postby Karie » Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:03 pm

We have 14 (or more) stock tanks at the farm I am at..
they are difficult to keep clean... Well. with West nile and Potomac Horse Fever and the Mayflies its much more important to keep them cleaner.

How do you do it.. I was told 1/4 cup of bleach in a 100 gallon tank will help but will that kill the larvae?? What else can we do?

A couple years ago I saw someone who kept gold fish in a stock tank.. Would this be a good idea?

What stock tank cleaner products do you use and are happy with?

thanks in advance..

I've heard people say that the goldfish made it just as messy, but we always have had fish in our tanks, and I find it works well. The only problem I have is the collection of cats sitting on the edge of the tank. Or the one horse who actually notices the fish and wants to go fishing.

You might see if there is a mosquito abatement office in your area. They used to give out mosquito fish for free. These guys are related to guppies, and love to chow down on Mosquito larva.
