Pedigree Query

Does anyone know of a good source (as in discounted price) for gastrogard or ulcergard paste? With the amount my vet is recommending for treatment, gastrogard from their clinic will be almost $550! I found one site with ulcergard for $31/tube but it was out of stock. Even that will be over 400. I supposedly need 14 tubes.

I hate to break it to you but if you are treating active ulcers you have to treat for 28 days which means you need 28 tubes. I buy mine from Abba vet supply 717-838-8041 They are $30. and some change, I can't remember the exact price.

Laurie, my vet's recommendation was 1 tube/day for a week, then 1/2 tube for 2 wks. Either amount (yours, or his) is why I'm freaking out. I've only had one horse b4 that we suspected had ulcers, but when we scoped him, he didn't. This one I'm not even going to bother to scope. He shows all the symptoms. Damn free horses!!!!!

I treated my catch pony last year for ulcers. I got Ulcerguard from Big Dee's Tack (I think the website is www.bigdweb.com I treated with Ulcerguard for 2 weeks and then dropped down to a generic from my vet for another 2 weeks. The UG was about $34 a tube, the generic was $12. After that I put the horse on G.U.T, which is a feed through ulcer preventitive and seems to be doing a great job so far this year of keeping him ulcer free and keeping weight.

Omeprezole is the generic and you can purchase a 3 dose tube for $15.00 from Abba Vet Supply. Call 717-838-8041

960 ml of Omeprezole Suspension is $200

Panacur Suspension runs $420 a gallon and is good maintence for race horses that have gone through the Omeprezole "cure" doses. It also keeps red worms at bay.

by the way, the cure fix for uper GI track ulcers using omperidone is 1/3 tube a day for one month, then 1/6 tube per day for another month and them 1/12 tube a day for maintence..

I don't know how to administer 1/12 tube of omperidone, or anything else, so I give them 1/3 tube every three days plus panacur suspension for upper GI ulcer maintenance.

I have never used but always wondered about G.U.T. How sure are you that it is working? Have you scoped while having a horse on it?

What is omperidone?

I assume Griff meant to say Omeperazole - omperidone (Domperidone) increases milk production and decreases nausea and vomiting.

Yep, I use Domperidon on mares that have been exposed to fescue.. Don't think it would do much for ulcers..

Also Omeperazole and the stuff made with Omeperazole, does nothing for hind gut ulcers.. Brewers yeast seems to help f you can get your horse to eat the stuff. I'm presently using Kombat Boots on my horses at the track and it seems to doing the job.
