Pedigree Query

hi folks My colt has been home to the farm for about two weeks now. I noticed today he has a few areas of hair missing dime size but not all round in shape and I noticed he was iching at his head with his back foot the marks on his head that have hair gone look trimmed, so I'm guessing what ever is bothering him must itch. The run out he is in has old saw dust on the ground with fresh cedar shavings on top. could the old saw dust bother him it shouldent be the fresh cedar shavings. it dosen't seem to bother the filly in the other pen same bedding.

onalimb, gets a colt playmate for him, its worth nothing keeping him alone. A member of this board will have one for you. But maybe if a change has been in his diet, as you move him him to your property causes
him the troubles.

Hi ben The colt is not totaly alone he has his pen to his self but there is a filly across the fence (wooden) from him and they are allready attached, he will throw a fit if we take her for a walk and she does the same. I will move the old gelding over to the farm early this spring as soon as I can get fence posts in the ground. his diet is pretty much been kept the same but his bedding might be allittle different. I got 25 yards of fresh cedar shavings (not dust not chips) premium stuff but the old saw dust that I put on ground level is 5 years old it was stored inside but it is dusty. I think that might be it or maybe he don't like cedar???

sounds more like rainrot... put Betadine or other anti-bacterial on the spots.

is the area flaky? if he was at the track i would say it was definantly girth itch not sure the real name of it. but they get it by wearing other horses halters etc. can be seen on all parts of the body and treated alot like rainrot. ive got 4 right now that have it on there face. just looks real flaky and itchy. and is very contagious everything must be treated with clorox.

I suppose that your colt is between 2-4 years old. He can have rainscald, ringworm or parasite infestation... One of those 3..
