Pt is copper treated - look at the horses for a copper deficiency.

A mile of ribbon wire and a hot box will probably cost a lot less than your other options and is probably the only one, except a muzzle that will work..

my experience with board eaters is some do and some do not; kind of like kids biting their finger nails.

I've noticed horses getting 'mouthy' when they are bored. This may be a function of where they were, in part. Part of it is learned behavior as well.

So behavior modification may be worth looking at. I've heard of other solutions like hot pepper on board tops while they were relearning in a separate paddock.
