Easy Way To Trim A Hay Bale??

Postby LKR » Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:02 pm

We got some alfalfa Hay bottom bales that have about 1-2 inches that got soaked with water over the winter. Is there an easy way to remove that part of the bale other than tearing it off by hand as we feed each leaf??

I would try a chainsaw or gas-powered hedge clippers on an unopened bale, provided the bale is really tight.

Ended up using a machete type knife. It worked pretty well. Just had a few bales like that. Took 3 of them and just set them out for the geldings and let them eat them down with the strings on. They picked through it and now have other hay to feed.
