Is there a problem with giving a mare a tube of Quest Plus right after she drops her foal?/

Griff: It looks like no one knows. I checked the website and can't find anything about use with a nursing mare. Did you check with your VET?

I thought they took Quest Plus off the shelf. Is there a reason why they did? Regular Quest is still available.

i bought a half dozen tubes of Quest Plus about a month ago.

Might not be there now but there was plenty around the end of November.

It was back ordered for several months but has been available since the fall. I always use ivermectin immediately after foaling. I was happy with the results so never thought to use something else.

Ivermectin does not get Tapeworms and I'm pretty sure it does nothing to encysted small strongyles.

That isn't why you deworm a mare immediately post foaling. The reason for deworming the mare with ivermectin within an hour post foaling is to make sure you've killed intestinal threadworms. These worms are the ones that end up in the milk, swallowed by the foal and then being the major cause of the 2 week foal scours. Tapes and such should already have been addressed.

I think Quest Plus will also take care of Treadworms and I will not give a in-foal brood mare Quest or Quest Plus. So, if any of my mares get Quest Plus it will have to be just after they foal and before they are covered. I'm not real big one foal heat covers but I have one mare that will settle ever time and that gives us a very tight window to give her Quest or Quest Plus

By the way, I thought it was Neck Treadworms that caused foal heat diarrhea ????.

You can get tapeworms with double pyrantel pamoate (like Exodus). You can get the small strongyles using a power pack (double fenbendazole every day for five days). Just sayin..

I have a pretty good worming program and just accomplished a Safe Guard Power Pac using Safe Guard in suspension on everything including 2011 then weanlings. Quest is good wormer, under the right conditions, and I include it in my rotations where I think t's safe. But I don't give it to in-foal mares or weanlings or short yearlings

Still have not asked the Vet about Quest Plus after foaling but do not plan to give it to any in-foal mares

My concern is the stuff is suppose the hang around a long ime and I'm concerned it might not be something you wat to give a mare you are planning to breed in the next couple of months
