Postby Blue feather » Thu Jun 05, 2014 1:30 pm

I have an orphaned foal and need to find either a farm that has nurse mares and can handle a 10 day old orphan or an available nurse mare I can bring to my farm. thanks

I have a foal on a nurse mare since 5/19. My mare flash coliced six hours after she foaled. E-surgery and now she's stable and recovering. Foal was remarkably adaptable. Put him on milk replacer with a bottle until the mare came home from the clinic but she rejected him and I found a nurse mare through my repro vet. Very expensive and the mare is a rough old cold blood mare but she accepted him after about 3 days and they're doing well now.
I recommend that you contact a repro vet in your area or call your closest university with a vet school.
I can give you contact info of my provider if you're in the Mid-Atlantic area.
Let me know if I can help further.
