What do you do to make a mare look as pretty as possible if you're going to take it to the sale?

If she is shaggy, clip now and blanket and bathe regularly she'll have a really nice coat in two months. Get any rain rot gone, also check heels etc for dermatitis and treat that. Start exercising daily to muscle up - hand walk or put in an exercise machine 30-45 minutes a day or lunge if you know how and get lots of trotting in. Feed some fat supplement to gloss up the coat - Max-E-Glo or ground flaxseed. Start working on her feet now if they are rough and out of shape. Go ahead and pull the mane if it's too long but if it's a waterfall start training it long and wait to pull it until it's neatly down on the right side. If she has any hair missing anywhere, put bag balm or vaseline on the patches every couple of days until the hair sprouts back. ETC. You cannot Do Too Much. Presentation is Everything.
