Medicated goop up horses' legs

So when I am seeing pics like this:

What am I looking at on their legs, and why is it applied, how does it work?

clay poultice to cool out their legs after they work. Left on overnight.

looks like just good old Cool-Out Clay. I use it on our babies when we start jogging them. It helps to draw the heat out after exercise and prevent inflammation.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

If you start with Super Green it is a miracle cure :wink:
