What do you use to increase weight gain?

We have a 5yr old 17hh TB gelding that we got last March. He was SLIGHTLY under weight(we got that under control) then but then we had a scorching summer and despite the fact he was rode maybe 2 times a week(I was working with my barrel horse), was being fed twice a day, and CONSTANTLY had water the heat caused him to sweat off weight. He was hosed off 2 times a day but it was very very hot. :( We put him on the powder weight building supplement, which helped slightly. I have wondered about trying beet pulp. Do any of you had any experiences with it? What are the pros and cons? Thanks in advance.

I had this problem with a very old mare that I was boarding. I put her on beet pulp, sunflower seeds and while she will never be a fatty, at least I dont have to worry about animal control :) She looks great. Can't remember when I posted for help on this board (3 months ago maybe??) It hasd worked great for her :) Cheap too

Judith,

Are the sunflower seeds hulled or whole?
