Have you used Bimectrin?

Postby DreamersPrincess » Tue Feb 21, 2006 9:40 pm

An owner recently wormed his herd. Four horses were given Bimectrin and all four were ill by the next morning. Three have died and one was still alive as of Monday. Horses not given Bimectrin were not affected. They are trying to determine if there was a bad batch.

Bimectrin is sold through Country Supply and Jeffers Equine. Here is a link where Country Supply (where the product was purchased) has temporarily pulled the product while this is sorted out. http://www.horse.com/products/sku-BBL19.html At the time of this posting the link read

Bimectin
There is currently a possible safety issue regarding the use of Bimectin. Until we feel confident enough to give it to our own horses we suggest that you purchase Equimectrin (#BBL08) or one of our other deworming products

The lot number of the tubes is 5J019 (exp Sep 07). If you have this lot number or have used Bimectrin (with good or bad results) you might contact Country Supply.

The owner is not on a witch hunt for the company. He and his vet are trying to figure out what has happened. His tubes have been sent in for testing.

This is an email address that has been forwarding the emails from the owner "barfotajan" <[email protected]>. I can't tell if it is the owner or just somone on a list. If you have questions, I would recommend you call Country Supply or the Manufacturer of Bimectrin. The owner signs his emails as "Kerry".

Here is a press release by the company. They have had no other complaints about any of their products or that lot number and stand behind their product.
