Foal Enemas

Postby pam » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:38 am

I was reading this veterinary book that said to give a old fashioned soapy enema not a commercial variety. Does anybody know what the recipe is for the soapy one and what works without worry or harm to the foal?
Thanks for your input.

I use about a tbsp of Dawn in a quart of very warm water, and a regular 60cc syringe. The tiny nozzle is just fine.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Hey Madelyn, I just got done responding to your information on the other question of stallions.
You're hard to keep up with.
Anyway, thank you very much for the recipe. I remember last year helping at the local vet, because a foal came in who had had an enema and was having a bad reaction to what was in it. So, thank you. This is my first little boy since I grew up with my first gelding on the farm. Mom is doing great, me on the otherhand, am hanging in there. I think I need the tranquilizer. I don't know, but I think training horses can be a little harry at times, but this is a blast.
