Beta Strep! -- ???

According to the email I received tonight from the broarding farm, our mare was diagnosed this morning (covered last night) with Beta Strep.
The vet flushed and lavaged her uterus this morning, then infused the mare with an anabolic called Timentin and will repeat the procedure again in the morning. Also started her on SMZ tablets, 10 twice daily (SMZ are a broad spectrum anabolic for urinary tract infections).

What does any of this signify? Was last nights cover for naught? Does the treatment promote conception or nullify the cover and 'clean out' the uterus? HELP!

Thank you.

Maybe you should call the vet and ask those questions, since you are paying the bill. SMZ's and Timentin are antibiotics, not anabolic (steroids). 10 twice a day is a low dose of SMZ's.

Beta Strep is a usual infection of the mare's reproductive tract. I've had mares that were treated and covered and got in foal on the same heat cycle. I've also seen Beta Strep end a mare's reproductive career.
