Spex is our first foray into racing. I am of old school thought. I like horses with "antique flavors" rather than the "flavor of the week" family members.

I worry though b/c the ppl around me tell me that since she is not "hyper" she will probably not be much of a racer. She is absolutely level. But she is interesting in the fact that we let her follow behind us when riding and she makes a game out of letting us take off at full gallop, waiting , and then blasting by us like we were standing still. Now grant you our riding horses aren't racers but they aren't slugs either.

So as I was sitting her trying to figure out the whole dosage thing I was wondering if anyone had any input on her pedigree and the conduit mare profile (another baffling instrument). From what I see the horse of my dreams, Spectacular Bid, her grandsire on dams side, hasn't shown much except for his broodmare offspring. :?

Don't get me wrong if she doesn't race no heartbreak there, we have other pursuits in mind also! :D But it really does fascinate me that some ppl can give a good guesstimate of a horses future pursuits.

So feel free to post good , bad or indifferent....... geesh this is a novel for my first post!! thanks in advance!!

I don't understand all the "numbers" involved either. But in my very limited experience, you won't know until you get her started.
We have a multi purpose AQHA mare that was on the track at 3yrs and 9 yrs. She is calm and cool, walked out to the track for the first out at 9 yrs old with her head down, fell asleep in the paddock being tacked.
Blasted out of the gate and won, beating the QH of the year!
Went right back to calm, cool and collected.
You just never know! Good luck, and Have fun!
Well behaved women rarely make history.

Thx Cathy...... I really hated to think that a level and calm horse could not be "capable" of also being a winner........ and what a feeling to beat an odds on "winner" , I'd be happy if that kind of thing happened in the only race my horse ever ran lmao!!

not to mention if she does run we probably won't be in the game long. We believe in natural athletes who along with a sound body also have to have the mind to go along with it. JMO if she turns out to need anything , even lasix, she's gonna find another job. I just liked things better when people and animals weren't given any "additives". Made for a fairer playing field.

didn't know where else to stick this but thought this would be fitting. What do you all think she will be a grey or a strawberry roan. Dam as well as grand sire where of the black/grey type..... I have a weirdo Grullo too... me and odd colors, a match made in the pasture lol!
