You could take a look at Stanislavsky in NY. I wouldn't throw much in the way of a big stud fee at this mare.

The very good horse Theatrical is by Nureyev out of a Sassafrass mare, Stanislavsky would give you an upside down of that.

Thriller was a NY bred horse that was pretty durable, won a few races, but not a lot of money. He is in Maine which is the maine reason I put his name out there.

Along madelyn's recommendation Private Inetrview is in NJ which would give you the Nureyev over Sassafras and NJ has a favorable state bred program for your foal even if you foal in Maine.

P.S.

I just looked at Anjiz's pedigree and he is by nureyev. Breed your mare to your newly acquired son?

I would look to a Blushing Groom line stallion (or a stallion with Blushing Groom close up in their pedigree). Canadian Horse-of-the Year, Mt Sassafras is by the Blushing Groom son, Mt Livermore out of a Sassafras mare. Digamist, in Pennsylvania, comes to mind (if he's still there). There are a couple of Mt Livermore sons in NJ that might fill the bill in Mt Arrow, and Sheryar. Orientate would be great, but I think he would be way too much (stud fee wise) for this mare. "Arc winner, Rail Link, also has the Blushing Groom/Sassafras cross.

OK-why would you want to breed to a stallion that has sassafras when my mare already Sassafrass in her bloodline??
yes, I will be breeding her to my newly acquired stud, "Winlocs Nelson"

Hi

Even though Madelyn's suggested stallion does not have Sassafras in his pedigree, the question was asked "why would I breed to a stallion that has Sassafras in his pedigree, when my mare already has Sassafras in her bloodline"? The answer would be that the breeder is trying to incorporate certain desired traits that Sasafrass may impart to a breeding. The two-year-old Brazilian G1 stakes winner, Lamor, duplicates Sassafras, as does the Irish G3 stakes winner, Abigail Pett. Inbreeding to Sassafras outperforms the anicipated results according to the VGS rating for this cross. This may be a tactic worthy of a closer look.

Hi

The VGS scores are reflected in the number of G1 stakes winners for a particular cross, and how the cross relates to what would be the predicted results of that cross. They don't develop numbers for an individual horse outside of those parameters.
