3 x 3 to Seattle Slew

Postby bfinellc » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:32 am

Can anyone provide me with some stats for runners that were inbred 3 x 3 to Seattle Slew (or a list of stakes winners)? I have a Chief Seattle mare, Alexie, whom I am considering sending to Seattle Fitz. I am concerned with the 3x3 to Seattle Slew and wanted to know if anyone could provide me with some more info. Thanks.

Not 3x3, but Seattle Slew inbred 5x5 appears in seven graded stakes winners, out of maybe 90 horses where it has been tried. On the other hand, there are 133 graded stakes winners out of mares from Seattle Slew sirelines.

I have a Boston Harbor mare and have specifically stayed AWAY from Seattle Slew in her matings. Seattle Slew seems to work so much better with other horses - Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector lines figure predominantly.

Thanks for the information, Madelyn. I pretty much think the same way but right now it's hard to even give away a "free" season. I am trying to find someone that wants a Seattle Fitz season, drops the foal in a breeder friendly state, and names me as co-breeder.....let me know if you know of anyone that would like to take me up on it! Obviously stakes winners/producers preferred but I am willing to take a look at any mare!

Hi

Close inbreeding to Seattle Slew has been a popular ploy in South America, producing among others, the Venezuelan G1 winner Between Six (2x3 to Seattle Slew). The stakes winners Stauch (52-13-5-6 $311,195 3x3), Sinbad The Sailor (85-18-23-11 $266,687 3x3), and Tidal Waters (61-14-10-11 $288,416 3x3), are some others that have done well.
I happen to be a fan of Seattle Fitz, and am anxiously awaiting the debut of his babies.

Slew 3x3

Postby hpkingjr » Sun Dec 28, 2008 7:45 am

In this database there are 69 horses inbred 3x3 to Slew. Seven black type, four are 3x3, three are 4x2 or closer. Of the first group, Stauch, Tidal Waves and Sindbad the Sailor, all had the Slew inbreeding on the dam side on the top of the pedigree and the sire side on the dam side of the pedigree. Don Casiano (Ven.) has two female lines of Slew.

Stauch has full sibs in the pedigree, Slewpy and his full sister.

Tidal Waves ran 61 times:

Sindbad the Sailor ran 85 times:

Don Casiano 48 starts:

Of the second group

Between Six (Ven.) is 2x3 by two Slew sons:

Atlantic Ocean (2x3) shows the Slew on the dam side on the top of the pedigree and sire on the bottom.

Undisputed (another SA horse, Ven.) has two males strains of Slew:

Withe this small sample, I cannot draw any firm conclusions, but it appears Slew inbreeding can work in a variety of patterns.

Wow, over 10% black type....not too shabby! Thanks for all of the great information. I might decide to breed my mare to Seattle Fitz afterall, especially since nobody (in PA or LA) seems to want to take me up on my free/reduced fee "co-breeder" deal in exchange for my Seattle Fitz season. I would think that in today's economy it would make sense but I guess my thinking is skewed!
