How Many Stallions

Question? How many stallions do you think have direct tail female linage to La Troienne on both the male side and female side of the pedigree? If you had a stud like this, could you possibly start to build a band of superior mares? How long might this take?

May I ask what breeding theory your are following? Are you trying to track mtDNA, or X chromosome?

As for finding stallions, wouldn't looking for stallions from family 1-x be the best bet?

I was reading an article from the American Thoroughbred Review which Tested the late Joe Estes theory for Breeding Stakes Winners and the single most important predictor of future success as a broodmare. Then comparing those results with the great mares of the 20th century it becomes more involved with sires that have tail female and male lines that go to these great mares. Now if these theories are correct, one should begin to develop a band of mares today that demonstrate racing ability as well as pedigree. I use the female family 1x from which the great broodmare La Troienne is the blueblood, but she herself was not a great racer. So the question that I proposed! The genetic makeup and how these traits are potentially present to get them to be demonstrated is the mystery. (I have a good racing mare that comes from the tail female line to the 1X female family)

the ATR position that the individual trumps the family is absurd ------your idea of building a broodmare band from an individual proves it as does failures of superior runners to produce gole with every offspring -----as for getting good genes to express, it is a crap shoot ------imagine you have three pairs of dice --three cubes -----the odds of rolling 6 sixes is pretty high ----now imagine each cube has three sixes on it --the odds of rolling six sixes has increaserd dramatically -----i think you can draw the same picture with breeding ----you need to load the pedigree with good stock then hope they shake out in the end --it is why stallion owners prefer stakes producers for their studs
