I believe eNicking, True Nicks and MareMatch all look at what the sire of the mare and what his sons and grandsons and great great grandsons female get produce when bred to the proposed stallion's sire line.
Don't want to start the "I hate Nicking" war here but some people are making a lot of money using the sire line of the mare's sire. Not sure that means a mare has a sire line but, I to me, the nicking people are acting like she does.
