Any and all knowledge about him welcome. I'm doing a little pedigree research into some real greats and notice many have crosses to him. Direct Male (breeding) descendants pretty much only in local markets now, unless I missed a big one.
Thanks!!

I found these articles on Teddy and his descendents:

Teddy: http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/Teddy.html

Sir Gallahad III: http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/SirGallahad.html

La Troienne: http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/LaTroienne.html

Gallant Fox: http://thevaulthorseracing.wordpress.com/tag/sir-gallahad-iii/

Bull Lea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_Lea

One thing that's interesting about Teddy was that his sons Sir Gallahad III and Bull Dog, full brothers, seemed to produce very different kinds of horses. Sir Gallahad became a noted sire of distance horses in the US and is considered a stamina influence while Bull Dog was noted for siring precocious speed and is considered a sprinting influence.

It may be anecdotal, but I remember reading after Ruffian's breakdown that some people thought her line-breeding to Teddy was the reason for her breakdown. I don't know if there is anything to that, but it would be interesting if anyone on the forum has any thoughts on that.

On paper, the strongest influence on Ruffian was Discovery, 'the Iron Horse'. The only Teddy in her pedigree is three crosses of his son Sir Gallahad, tho' there's an additional cross of Teddy's sire, Ajax. Ruffian's sire Reviewer, who had three cannon breaks before being retired, has also been blamed. But if he had 'fragile' or 'brittle' bone it didn't keep him from getting some hard-knocking runners.

Ruffian was a really big and still growing 3yo whose bone may at times have been trying to 'catch up' with the rest of her. I prefer to speculate in purely unscientific fashion that it was that in combination with a bad step that resulted her breakdown.

Thanks for the insights on Ruffian, P.Z. 8)
