This isn't a Thoroughbred, but this horse is incredibly inbred, not just up close but even the one line that might have brought in "outcross" blood is inbred! The fifth dam, Plaudits Babe, is a full sister to the Maddon's Bright Eyes, the dam of Bright Bar, the sire of Shutter Shy. Johnny Boone is a full brother to Bright Rebel.

The note on the pedigree says that this filly traces 17 times to Plaudette, which I believe. BTW, Plaudette was a pintaloosa mare that produced get that made their way into both the AQHA and ApHC studbooks.

Dam of the great Three Bars, Myrtle Dee, 3 x 3 to Sandfly whose dam Sandiway was full sister to Tadcaster (aka: Bend Or), plus an additional Isonomy/Doncaster cross (Dancing Water) on sire side.

Myrtle Dee was by Luke Mcluke who was by Ultimus who was 2x2 Domino.
This really increased the inbreeding. I love the comments on Ultimus indicating he would make a fine sire for Calvary horses.

The great quarter horse stallion Three Bars was of course an intensely inbred TB. Go figure

He doesn't look all that inbred to my eye.

The average cavalry mount of the early 20th cent. was a pretty inferior specimen. The Remount Service was activated a couple of years after Ultimus was foaled. His even more inbred son High Time got a couple of sons, Band Time and Fleeting Time, that were used by the Remount. They're best known now as successful sires of short speed in the pre-Three Bars era of QH racing.

Agreed. And he was a great foundation sire for soundness.

Hello,
a look at the damlines of last Weekends winner and 3rdplaced fillies Ajaxana (Rock of Gibraltar) and Diamond Dove (Dr. Fong) (German 1000 Guineas) showed some similar.
Ajaxana traces to Aralina 2x2 Alchimist (see Arratos, Ataxerxes and Amico Fritz all Sires)
Dyveke traces to Druda 2x2 Tourbillon (Dark'n'Sharp, Donaldson), Dyveke 3x4 Dschingis Kahn, damsire Lando 3x 3 Literat/Liberty FB/FS, Diamond Doves Granddam is 2x4 Kaiseradler/Kaiserkrone FB/FS combination

I'm not sure, if following Sire meets the criteria of Close inbreeding, Minoru (Hyperion) 3x4x4 Hermit/
Chanoinesse, interestingly Grand Geraldine, dam of Grand Parade is bred the same way.

Regards, Bettina

Hello,
this season a foal was born in Germany, with the closest of all possible breeding pattern, a 1x1 FB/FS combination Intendant/Inspiration, the Sire Lando is 3x3 FB/FS Literat/Liberty and already named 'Incredible11', it's in the database.

Yes, it got a head, a tail and 4 legs. Let's see, if the "Foal" will ever see a Racetrack.

Regards, Bettina

Hello,
Elles mentioned Gradivo, see her link.

Gradivo is bred 2x2 to FB/FS Graf Ferry/Grolle nicht and 4x4x4x4 Festa, btw a FS of Desmond. His breeder was the now defunct "Waldfried Stud", a stud who did a lot of those kind of inbreeding.

Gradivo is to found in Thoroughbredpeds, too. Admittingly he appears rarely, because he was exported to Czech, which was for many years "behind the Iron Curtain". After this curtain was lifted in 1989, a mare from this Country was purchased for ac German Stud and so "Gradivo" was 'smuggled back'. The broodmare in question was Arva - Arnika - Libanon - Detvan - Gradivo, via her daughter Asuma (by Surumu), she is dam of Aolus, Apeiron, Akihito, Ars Nova.

regards, Bettina
