Let's Play

Postby Gerry » Mon Jul 11, 2005 5:16 am

I saw this mare yesterday and she is pulling at me. Is she worth the time as a broodmare by anyones standards? I was told she won 3 races last year, hasnt shown the inclination to run at all this year. What do you all think of having the double cross of Con Game so close up? I think its intriguing?! And with no Raise a Native blood she crosses with a couple of my stallions on that point. Any thoughts? TIA

Gerry, going strictly off the database info (which I probably shouldn't do) this mare appears to have almost no bottom to her pedigree. Although the inbreeding to Con Game is interesting, it's through the sire and the damsire, not the female family. Personally...I'd pass.

But if you have the room, the budget, and are curious enough about the outcome to give her a try, then by all means go for it. Sometimes very surprising results come about just because somebody has a hunch...

Laurie,

I have the same thought...going off the data base info she is a pass but I have seen her and there is something about her that hit me but still she is weak on the female side according to the database so looking for more opinions than just my hunch....

thank you for your thoughts!

Hi Gerry,

The first question you should ask yourself is what will I do with the foal.
Then what do I think she'll produce.

If you're acting on impulse, have a coke and watch a movie and then think about it again.

Good luck,

Pete
Has a palomino jean that pop up some.
This stallion is DNA ... all foal can be MBNA inrolled.

Horses like their credit cards.

Gerry,

First off, I'd take Pete's advice to on the coke and movie and think time. That is never, ever bad advice.

Then, assuming she just keeps singing to you....if she is sound, well-put-together, and moves well, her foals might have value as sporthorse foals if they don't look like racing material. Does she have any jump in her (or does she have close relatives who bounce like Tigger)? Does she just float when she trots? Damascus-line horses are generally sought after as sporthorse stallions, and if I'm not mistaken you have one of those in your barn. :D
